Dietary Aide

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian (RD) maintains the cleanliness of the serving kitchen and equipment. Serves breakfast, snacks and noon meal to all participants of PACE Organization. Preps and serves the meals and snacks according to diet orders with oversight and direction from the RD.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
  • Dietary experience in a health care environment preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of basic health and nutrition.
  • Ability to follow directions/detail oriented.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and meeting time constraints.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers.

Work Environment:

Employee must be able to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team model, interfacing and collaborating with a wide range of clinical and social services disciplines who work together to manage the PACE participants’ care. The work setting is in an Adult Day Health Center and primary care clinic environment with moderate noise levels and controlled temperatures.

Physical Requirements:

Requires manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination; the ability to use department equipment; and the ability to lift/carry up to 30 pounds using appropriate body mechanics with reasonable accommodation if needed.

Visual, Hearing and Communication Requirements:

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to communicate by way of the telephone with participants, customers, vendors and staff.

Pressure Factor:

Requires working under stressful conditions. Working conditions may be noisy and crowded and fluctuating indoor temperatures. Moderate pressure to meet scheduled deadlines. Potential for exposure to verbal aggression by client, vendors, and staff.

Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to a risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instrumentation, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, bodily fluids, communicable diseases and any other conditions common in a healthcare environment. Subject to unpleasant odors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares morning and afternoon snack per RD specifications and according to snack menu, portion control, diet orders, and time constraints.
  • With supervision from RD servers morning  and afternoon snack 
  • Prepares noon meal per RD specifications and according to menu.
  • With supervision from RD serves noon meal at a proper temperature with reference to diet order.  
  • Per diet order provides supplements, and adaptive equipment needs to identify participants.
  • Records temperatures of all meals and kitchen equipment.
  •  Wears required hair net/hat and apron during meal service and snack preparations.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the kitchen and kitchen equipment per policies and procedures. 
  • Performs weekly and daily cleaning from cleaning schedule.
  • Maintain inventory and restock supplies on a first-in/first-out basis.
  • Communicates with RD regarding nutritional issues and kitchen concerns.
  • Assists RD with ordering meals, snacks, supplies, and supplements.
  • Updates information on diet card and diet lists as needed.
  • Demonstrates dependability, initiative, cooperation and diplomacy at PACE ORGANIZATION and other work environments.
  • Follows all PACE ORGANIZATION Policies and Procedures.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about participants, clients or families.
  • Handles potentially infectious specimens with appropriate biohazard precautions, and practices Universal precautions.
  • Maintains safe working environment. Follows PACE ORGANIZATION Safety Policies and Procedures and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Participates in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings. 
  • Participates in and supports Quality Improvement Initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested.
